Tyrese Gibson shares emotional video after death of father Tyrone Gibson from cancer
Fast and Furious actor Tyrese Gibson has shared an emotional video following the death of his father, Tyrone Gibson, who passed away on August 29, 2025, after a battle with cancer.
On August 30, Gibson posted a 26-minute video on X (formerly Twitter), titled “Another Crying Video.” In the clip, the actor reflected on his father’s final days and their complicated relationship. “I’ve had a strained relationship with my father over the years. But you’ve got to put all that stuff to the side,” Gibson said.

According to The St. Louis American, the 46-year-old star had visited his father in June on Father’s Day, surprising him while documenting the moment on Facebook Live. At the time, Tyrone Gibson had already been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
Tyrone Gibson, who left the family when Tyrese was young, was the son of the late Bishop Willie Ellis, pastor of New Northside Missionary Baptist Church. The actor was primarily raised in Watts, Los Angeles, by his mother, Priscilla Murray Gibson, who passed away in 2022.
In an Instagram tribute, Gibson credited his father for shaping his love of music, sharing that his recent instrumental release, Beautiful Pain, coincided with his father’s passing. “He instilled all of this music in my soul. Jesus this is just too much,” Gibson wrote, adding that he now feels like “a motherless and fatherless child.”
This is not the first time the actor has shared deeply personal struggles publicly. In 2017, Gibson went viral for an emotional video during a custody dispute over his daughter Shayla.
Fans and peers have since expressed sympathy across social media, offering condolences and support as Gibson grieves this personal loss.
