Alan Ritchson addresses Batman rumors after Motor City premiere

Alan Ritchson opens up on Batman casting talks with James Gunn while debuting his dialogue-free thriller Motor City.

Alan Ritchson is breaking his silence on long-running Batman speculation while promoting his latest project, the dialogue-free revenge thriller Motor City.

The Reacher star’s new film premieres at the Venice Film Festival on August 30 before screening in Toronto, but much of the buzz surrounding Ritchson has centered on whether he could be DC Studios’ next Dark Knight. Speaking with reporters, Ritchson confirmed that he has had conversations with James Gunn but downplayed the possibility of wearing the cape and cowl.

“I don’t see myself as Batman,” Ritchson said, noting that while talks happened, he believes Gunn has other directions in mind for the iconic character. Still, he hinted at possible opportunities within the DC Universe, sparking further curiosity among fans.

In Motor City, Ritchson portrays a blue-collar man seeking vengeance in 1970s Detroit after being betrayed by a corrupt cop (Pablo Schreiber) and a ruthless drug lord (Ben Foster). His fiancée, played by Shailene Woodley, is caught in the crossfire. Directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the film stands out for its bold choice of being nearly dialogue-free, relying on emotional intensity and fight choreography to carry the story.

Ritchson admitted the silent performance was a challenge but described it as one of the most rewarding roles of his career. “It’s scary but exhilarating,” he said.

Between the unique artistic risks of Motor City and the ongoing speculation about his superhero future, Ritchson has positioned himself as one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading men.
