PESHAWAR:

In a serious violation of official conduct and cultural norms, an FIA official stationed at the Torkham border immigration centre has been suspended after a video went viral on social media showing him filming female travellers without their consent.

The incident, which goes against traditional Pashtun values, reportedly took place during immigration procedures where women, without veils, were recorded without permission. The video quickly went viral on social media, drawing public outrage and triggering immediate action from the Federal Investigation Agency.

According to an FIA spokesperson, the suspended official, identified as Ehtesham-ul-Haq, was posted at the Torkham Immigration Checkpost. He was seen in the viral footage filming travellers during duty hours. Taking strong notice of the matter, FIA's director general has suspended the officer with immediate effect and ordered a departmental inquiry. A detailed report of the incident has also been sought from the FIA Peshawar Zone's director.

"The FIA remains committed to providing a respectful and dignified immigration experience to all travellers," the spokesperson stated. "Any misuse of authority or violation of official duty will not be tolerated under any circumstances," he added.

The agency stressed that it is working on an emergency basis to modernise immigration services and ensure strict adherence to professional standards. "All officials are expected to deal with citizens in a courteous, lawful, and disciplined manner. Violations of rules will result in strict disciplinary action without discrimination," the spokesperson added.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for training and accountability of personnel deployed at sensitive border points, especially in culturally sensitive regions.
