Sony’s rumored PS6 handheld could beat Xbox ROG Ally
A new leak has reignited excitement around Sony’s rumored PlayStation 6 handheld, suggesting it could deliver next-generation performance at a competitive price.
According to YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead, the device, codenamed “Canis”, will feature AMD’s Zen 6 CPU cores paired with RDNA 5 graphics, making it a powerful portable companion to the upcoming PS6 console expected in 2027.
The leak claims the PS6 handheld will include a mix of six CPU cores, with four dedicated to gaming and two optimized for the operating system. It will reportedly support between 24GB and 36GB of LPDDR5X RAM, giving it more memory than most handheld gaming PCs on the market.
One of the standout details is its dockable design, similar to the Nintendo Switch. When docked, the processor is expected to boost from 1.20GHz to 1.65GHz, significantly improving performance. In practical terms, this could mean up to 2.6x faster ray tracing and 0.75x faster raster performance compared to the PlayStation 5.
The leak also suggests Sony is targeting aggressive pricing. A fully specced model could cost around $499, making it substantially cheaper than the upcoming Xbox ROG Ally X, which is positioned in the $700+ range. Analysts believe this move could help Sony attract PlayStation 4 holdouts while competing directly in the growing handheld gaming market.
If accurate, the PS6 handheld would trail the PS5 only slightly in raster graphics while outperforming it in ray tracing thanks to RDNA 5 upgrades. With expectations for at least 24GB RAM to support PS6-native titles and AI-powered features, the device is shaping up to be more than just a companion console.
Sony has not commented on the rumors, and the PS6 handheld is unlikely to launch before 2027.
