Cardi B received a boost in her ongoing civil trial this week as a key eyewitness contradicted claims that the rapper assaulted a security guard during a 2018 incident at a Beverly Hills medical clinic.
On Wednesday, August 27, Tierra Malcolm, a receptionist at the OB-GYN office where the altercation allegedly occurred, testified in court that she did not witness any physical contact between Cardi B and security guard Emani Ellis. Malcolm recalled stepping into the hallway after hearing raised voices and observing a verbal argument between the two women. She stated that while the exchange was heated, it never escalated into physical violence. According to Malcolm, she even positioned herself between Cardi and Ellis in an attempt to calm the situation.
Malcolm also told jurors that she later discovered a scratch on her own face, which she believed was caused by Ellis, not Cardi B. She explained that during the encounter, her back was to the rapper and she was facing Ellis directly. Her testimony directly contradicts Ellis’ allegation that Cardi B had assaulted her during the dispute.
The incident occurred after the clinic closed early to accommodate Cardi B’s prenatal appointment in private. Cardi, who testified earlier in the week, denied any physical confrontation and described the situation as a verbal disagreement, stating, “I didn’t hit her. She didn’t hit me. There was no touch. So to me, there was no incident.”
Cardi also noted that at the time, she was four months pregnant and weighed approximately 130 pounds, while Ellis was physically larger. She claimed the dispute stemmed from Ellis allegedly filming her without consent.
Further supporting Cardi’s version of events, Dr. David Finke—the OB-GYN who treated her that day—testified that he witnessed Ellis injure Malcolm’s shoulder and did not see Cardi make contact with anyone.
The civil trial is currently ongoing in Los Angeles County.
