Dermatologists cautioned on Saturday that relying on unverified beauty tips from social media, coupled with the consumption of fast food, could be harmful to skin and hair health. They instead recommended natural, nutrient-rich foods such as lassi, yoghurt, green leafy vegetables, and lemon water for maintaining healthy, glowing skin.
Speaking to a local news channel, dermatologist Dr Kashif Ahmad Malik strongly warned against the growing trend of following unverified beauty advice and depending on fast food for skincare. He stressed that such popular yet unscientific practices often cause more harm than benefit.
"Many people turn to social media for beauty guidance without understanding the risks involved," he noted, adding that this could result in acne, inflammation, and premature ageing.
Dr Malik explained that while fast food may be widely consumed, it is laden with unhealthy fats, sugars, and processed ingredients, all of which have damaging effects on the skin. These foods trigger inflammation, increase oil production, and clog pores, ultimately leading to pimples and frequent breakouts. Poor dietary habits, he pointed out, are often reflected in dull, lifeless skin prone to further damage.
Instead, he advised turning to natural, wholesome foods. In particular, he advocated the inclusion of yoghurt and lassi in daily diets. Rich in probiotics, these promote gut health, which in turn helps cleanse the skin from within. The beneficial bacteria in such foods, he added, play a vital role in reducing inflammation and maintaining a healthy complexion.
Highlighting the risks of misleading online content, Dr Malik warned that many trending beauty tips on social media are not scientifically supported.
