Sam Asghari responds after Britney Spears calls marriage a fake distraction
Sam Asghari has spoken out after Britney Spears described their marriage as feeling like a fake distraction. The singer, now 43, reflected on their relationship in a candid Instagram post on August 25, calling her years with Asghari some of the hardest of her life. She wrote that she was cut off from her sons during that period and that being married almost felt like a way to mask the pain.
In response, Asghari shared a heartfelt statement through his representative, saying their marriage was very real to him. He explained that although it was short, they had been together for seven years and he had been deeply in love with Spears. He added that he would always have love for her and wished her the best.
The couple first met in 2016 when Asghari appeared as her love interest in the music video for Slumber Party. They went on to marry in June 2022, but the union lasted just 14 months before Asghari filed for divorce in August 2023. Their split was finalised in May 2024.
Asghari, who has pursued acting alongside his work as a model and fitness trainer, has previously admitted that being in a relationship with Spears put extra pressure on his career. He explained that he had to work harder to prove himself because many people dismissed him as simply the pop star’s partner. Still, he remained publicly supportive of her, even defending her against a documentary about her conservatorship that he called exploitative.
Although their marriage ended, Asghari’s response suggests that he is not interested in conflict. His words stood in contrast to Spears’ emotional post, with him choosing to emphasise respect and care for his former wife. For fans who followed the ups and downs of their time together, the contrasting reflections from both sides highlight just how complex their story remains.
