Free WiFi to be launched in 35 areas across Islamabad

Initiative aims to offer convenient and free internet access to citizens in the city’s busiest areas

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that free Wi-Fi will be available at 35 prominent locations throughout Islamabad, including major markets, Metro and Electric Feeder Bus stations, and public parks. This initiative aims to offer convenient and free internet access to citizens in the city’s busiest areas.

The decision was made during a meeting led by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, held at the CDA Headquarters.

Officials informed the meeting that the CDA’s technical team will provide full support to the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) for implementing the project. The system will be operated and maintained by NTC, with the goal of transforming Islamabad into the nation’s first free Wi-Fi city in the near future.

Chairman Randhawa emphasised the importance of developing an operational and marketing model to ensure the service’s self-sustainability, with revenue generated being reinvested for system upgrades and maintenance. He also stressed the need for uninterrupted service and high-quality connectivity for residents.

Reiterating the government’s vision for a digital Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa assured that all necessary resources will be mobilized to provide modern amenities to the people of the federal capital, making Islamabad a pioneer free Wi-Fi city in Pakistan.
