Suspect injured by 'associates' fire'
A suspect, "feared as a symbol of terror in the federal capital", was critically injured allegedly by his own associates' firing while in Shalimar police custody.
He was shifted to a hospital in critical condition.
According to police, the incident occurred when a Shalimar police team was taking arrested suspect Asim Jahangir to identify and arrest his accomplices.
As they reached the area, Jahangir's associates, hiding there, opened direct fire on the police team.
The police van's tyre was burst in the attack, though officers remained unharmed due to precautionary measures. However, Jahangir, who was already under physical remand in case registered at Shalimar police station, sustained severe injuries from his accomplices' gunfire. Islamabad DIG said Jahangir faced charges of attacking police and other serious crimes. He added that Jahangir had a criminal record in 19 cases, and raids are being carried out to arrest his associates.
