The Lahore Arts Council, Alhamra, in collaboration with the Chinese consulate general concluded a three-day Chinese Film Exhibition at Alhamra Arts Centre, The Mall, showcasing a cinematic journey under the evocative theme, "War for Peace."
The festival offered audiences a rare opportunity to explore stories of courage, resilience, and unity through the lens of Chinese cinema, while highlighting the enduring cultural ties between Pakistan and China.
The exhibition, which opened on August 23, featured 10 films over three days, accompanied by a special display illustrating the historical and cultural connections between the two nations. The inaugural ceremony set the tone for the festival with the national anthems of Pakistan and China, symbolising brotherhood and harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Acting Consul General Cao Ke thanked the Lahore Arts Council for organising the festival, calling it an important platform for cultural exchange. Punjab Secretary Information Tahir Raza Hamdani welcomed the initiative, stating that such cultural events strengthen the deep-rooted friendship between Pakistan and China.
Chairman of Alhamra, Razi Ahmed, said the exhibition reflected the robust cultural partnership between the two countries and offered Lahore's audience a chance to experience the richness of Chinese cinema.
Executive Director Alhamra, Muhammad Mahboob Alam Chaudhry, added that Alhamra has always served as a hub of cultural harmony, and that Chinese films continue to promote peace, development, and universal human values.
The festival opened with the screening of The Hundred Regiments Offensive, followed by other significant features including The Composer, Railway Guerrilla, Night Attack, and The Massage.
On the final day, audiences enjoyed Zhang Ga the Soldier Boy, On the Mountain of Tai Hang, and My Country, My Parents, which were praised for their compelling narratives and artistic quality.
The theme of the exhibition marked the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression, the World Anti-Fascist War, and the Restoration of Taiwan.
As highlighted during the festival, China's endurance during World War II played a pivotal role in reshaping the chronology of the conflict, with the Communist Party of China credited for its significant contribution to the victory. Beyond screening films, the exhibition fostered cultural dialogue and artistic collaboration, reinforcing the values of peace, friendship, and shared heritage that continue to define Pakistan-China relations. Attended by diplomats, art lovers, and film enthusiasts, the festival celebrated cinema's unifying power while reaffirming the historical bonds that link the two nations.
