Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden have been seen filming Netflix’s new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in Derbyshire’s Peak District, offering fans a first glimpse of the highly anticipated series. Corrin, known for their role in The Crown, portrays the spirited Elizabeth Bennet, while Scottish actor Jack Lowden takes on the role of the famously aloof Mr Darcy.

The actors were photographed filming a dramatic moorland scene on Tuesday, with Lowden dressed in a classic Regency-era grey frock coat, black waistcoat, and breeches, while Corrin wore a flowing grey silk gown with a floral jacket and lace-up boots. Observers noted the tension between the characters during filming, describing an intense exchange where Elizabeth appears visibly upset. “Jack was playing quite the dashing English gentleman riding his horse through the countryside before meeting up with Emma,” an onlooker told The Mail.

The upcoming six-part series is based on Jane Austen’s 1813 novel and follows the complicated romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy. The new adaptation, written by Dolly Alderton and directed by Euros Lyn (Heartstopper), is expected to debut in early 2026 following the end of filming in late 2025, according to What’s On Netflix.

However, the production has already stirred controversy. Reports suggest the series will omit the memorable “lake scene” made famous by Colin Firth in the 1995 BBC version, allegedly due to concerns over “objectifying men.” The decision has sparked backlash online, with some fans threatening to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, expressing dissatisfaction with the casting and creative direction.

The series features an impressive cast, including Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet, Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane, Jamie Demetriou as Mr Collins, and Louis Partridge as Mr Wickham. Rhea Norwood, Siena Kelly, Fiona Shaw, and newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery round out the ensemble.

Screenwriter Alderton expressed her excitement, calling Pride and Prejudice “the blueprint for romantic comedy” and a joy to reimagine for a new generation.
