Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan held a meeting with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Power Division Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the Federal Board of Revenue chairman and the State Bank of Pakistan governor to discuss contours of the National Industrial Policy.
They held detailed deliberations on reducing the cost of electricity, promoting green energy, upgrading the transmission and distribution network and ensuring sustainable growth of the industrial sector.
Haroon Akhtar stated that, under the vision of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the National Industrial Policy would serve as a catalyst for industrial and export growth. He emphasised that the policy had been prepared in consultation with both public and private stakeholders and provides a comprehensive package by addressing the key industrial challenges.
The PM aide highlighted that the policy included the revival of sick industrial units, improved access to credit, measures to counter undue harassment by government authorities and reforms in bankruptcy laws. He announced that the National Industrial Revival Commission would be established to oversee implementation and provide a mechanism for addressing complaints.
To facilitate investors and strengthen confidence, the special assistant underscored that contract enforcement would be ensured and one-window services, inspired by the Chinese model, would be introduced in the Special Economic Zones to streamline industrial operations.
