KE officials booked after two brothers die of electrocution

Police have registered a case against the chief executive officer of K-Electric, officials of IBC Shah Faisal and others after two brothers died of electrocution during heavy rain in Shah Faisal Colony.

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Sultan, father of the victims, under Sections 322 and 268/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the complainant, his younger son Siraj, 12, went out on August 19 to purchase household items during downpour when he was electrocuted by an underground high-tension cable. His elder son, Murad, 21, rushed to save him but was also electrocuted.

Both fell unconscious in rainwater and were pulled out by neighbours, who shifted them to JiPMC in an Edhi ambulance. Siraj died on the spot while Murad succumbed on the way as traffic congestion and flooding on Sharea Faisal delayed their arrival.

Relatives said Siraj was a Class III student while Murad was studying in second year and was due to join a private bank from September 1.

Their mother said her only two sons had been taken away, while neighbours recalled Siraj had decorated the family house with flags ahead of Independence Day.

Family members alleged that an 11,000-volt underground cable was laid only two feet deep instead of the standard seven to eight feet, and accused K-Electric of faulty repair work.
