Six killed as ambulance collides with bus

At least six people, including four Rescue 1122 officials, were killed and several others injured when an ambulance collided head-on with a bus near Kot Samaba on Taranda Road on Thursday.
Police said the driver of a Rescue 1122 ambulance carrying a patient from Khanpur to Rahim Yar Khan attempted to avoid an oncoming motorcycle but lost control and the vehicle rammed into a bus.
The collision proved fatal for four Rescue 1122 staff members: Safety Officer Adeel Ghaffar Khan, Shift In-charge Shahid Razaq, Medical Officer Technician Farhad Khan, and driver Muhammad Ahmad. Two citizens — Zubaida Bibi and Manzoor Ahmad - also succumbed to their injuries. Several other passengers sustained serious wounds.
On receiving information, District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Ali Samo, along with a heavy police contingent and rescue teams, reached the site.
The bodies and injured were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan, while police began an investigation into the cause of the accident.
Deputy Commissioner Khurram Parvez expressed grief over the loss of lives, extending condolences to the bereaved families. He directed hospital administration to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and instructed the district emergency officer to monitor rescue operation. He also sought a detailed inquiry report from the relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, Punjab Minister for Emergency Services Khawaja Salman Rafique and Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer also expressed sorrow over the deaths.
