Asus and Xbox have confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld consoles will launch worldwide on October 16 2025.

The announcement was made during Gamescom, giving fans the official release date for Xbox’s first dedicated handheld system developed in partnership with Asus.

First revealed during the Xbox Showcase on June 8 2025, the ROG Xbox Ally line is based on Asus’ existing handheld series but tailored with Microsoft’s new Xbox software experience for portable gaming.

The devices will boot directly into an updated Xbox app on Windows 11 rather than the traditional desktop, offering quick access to games across Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Battle.net and other platforms.

While Xbox confirmed the release date, official pricing has not yet been revealed. However, listings at Best Buy suggest the base ROG Xbox Ally could be priced at around $549.99, with the higher-end Ally X model expected at $899.99.

Pre-orders are not yet open, though listings for accessories such as a charging dock and protective case are already live.

The ROG Xbox Ally features a 7-inch full HD 120Hz display, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity and contoured grips designed after the Xbox Wireless Controller.

The base model includes an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and 512GB storage, while the Ally X upgrades to an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB memory and 1TB storage. Battery capacity is also increased from 60Wh on the Ally to 80Wh on the Ally X.

With launch only two months away, the ROG Xbox Ally marks Microsoft’s first step into the handheld gaming market, positioning itself as a competitor to devices such as the Steam Deck and Lenovo Legion Go.
