The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has intensified relief and recovery operations in Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral and other flood-hit mountain communities, working closely with local authorities to support affected families.
The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) has mobilised emergency centres in Chitral, Gilgit, Karachi and Islamabad, issuing weather alerts, evacuating over 3,000 residents and providing food, tents and shelter to displaced families.
More than 100 families have received a month's supply of food and essential items, while community volunteers are repairing water supply lines, irrigation channels, roads and farmland. Medical teams of Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan are on the ground around the clock.
A three-day camp in Punial treated over 380 patients, while mobile health units continue to provide emergency care in vulnerable areas. AKDN has also pledged long-term recovery measures, including repairing damaged schools and health facilities, rehabilitating water schemes, restoring farmland and supporting vulnerable farmers. Plans also include the establishment of 16,500 mobile health care units and nutritional support for 3,000 women and children.
The Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has formally requested AKDN's support, which will cover early recovery, rehabilitation, and resilience-building in flood-affected areas.
