Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Dr Ehsan Ghani has said that 46 dengue cases have so far been reported in Rawalpindi, though no cluster outbreak has emerged. He noted a significant decline in cases in Potohar's union councils, but declared 20 union councils as sensitive. Citizens have been urged to ensure no water stagnates on rooftops, junkyards, or other places, warning that dengue could spread as an epidemic if preventive measures are ignored.
Addressing a press briefing at the District Health Authority alongside District Health Officer (Preventive) Dr Jawad and focal person Dr Waqar, Dr Ghani said comprehensive preparations have been made this year to counter dengue. Dedicated dengue counters have been set up in major hospitals, while 50 staff members are undergoing training at Holy Family Hospital.
He added that two meetings are held daily by the District Health Authority, while graveyards and drains are being cleaned regularly. Local leadership and parliamentarians are also coordinating with the administration. Public awareness campaigns are underway, stressing preventive measures such as covering water containers to prevent mosquito breeding. He said larvae, whenever identified, are destroyed immediately.
Sharing figures, he said that in the past eight months, 2,762 FIRs were registered, 1,361 premises sealed, 3,798 challans issued, and fines worth Rs6.27 million collected.
Meanwhile, Dr Waqar Ahmed said 27 Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics have been established in the city, where 19,000 patients visited between August 1 and 19, with 242 deliveries reported.
