In promotional images, Gadd shows off a bulked-up new look alongside Bell, known for Rocketman and All of Us Strangers. The actors play Ruben and Niall, estranged “brothers” whose reunion triggers a violent confrontation, forcing the story to move back and forth through their troubled histories.
According to the official synopsis, Half Man follows the highs and lows of Ruben and Niall’s relationship — from their teenage years through adulthood — capturing moments of anger, love, humor, and betrayal. The series also reflects the changing energy of a city and the evolving meaning of masculinity across generations.
The drama spans from the 1980s to the present day, with Mitchell Robertson (Curfew) and Stuart Campbell (SAS Rogue Heroes) portraying the younger versions of Niall and Ruben. Additional cast members include Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Bilal Hasna, Charlie De Melo, and Amy Manson.
Filming recently wrapped in Glasgow, Scotland. Half Man was created, written, and executive produced by Gadd, with Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck directing. Produced by Mam Tor Productions for BBC and HBO, the show is supported by Screen Scotland and distributed internationally by Banijay Rights.
Half Man is set to premiere in 2026 on BBC iPlayer, BBC One, and BBC Scotland in the U.K. and on HBO Max across the U.S., Latin America, and Europe.
