Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 was officially announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, confirming the long-awaited return of the real-time strategy series.
The game will launch in 2026 and is being developed by King Art Games, the studio behind Iron Harvest, rather than Relic Entertainment, which created the original Dawn of War titles. Publishing duties are handled by Deep Silver, supported by a German video game grant.
Dawn of War 4 is described as a return to the series’ traditional RTS roots. It features a reworked combat system including an expanded Sync Kill mechanic, offering cinematic finishing animations when units defeat enemies.
At launch, four factions will be available: Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus, who appear in the series for the first time.
The game includes four story-driven campaigns with over 70 missions, each supported by CGI introductions and fully animated cutscenes. The campaigns can be played solo or cooperatively, with the narrative written by Black Library author John French.
Returning characters include Captain Cyrus, Chief Librarian Jonah Orion, and Warboss Gorgutz. The story takes place many years after the events of Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, revisiting the planet Kronus with multiple biomes such as Hive Cities, Highlands, and Wastelands.
Alongside the campaign, players can engage in Last Stand and Skirmish modes, as well as competitive multiplayer across more than 30 maps. Over 10 playable Commanders and 110 units and buildings are available, many of which are customisable.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is scheduled for release in 2026, with platforms yet to be confirmed.
