Taking notice of several train accidents in recent months, the Pakistan Railways has made it mandatory for all passenger and goods trains to operate strictly under the "Railway Work to Rules – Brake Powers."
In this regard, Pakistan Railways' Chief Operating Superintendent, Syeda Maryam Gilani, has issued an official circular to all divisional superintendents and the technical branch. The circular outlines four strict directives and guidelines for engineering and technical staff, stating that before a fitness certificate is issued for any train, the braking material of every vehicle, coach, and wagon must be fully updated.
Immediate enforcement orders have been issued.
According to the circular, from now on, technical engineering staff will formally verify that the brake power of every coach and wagon is functioning at 100 per cent. Any coach, engine, or wagon failing to meet this standard will be immediately detached from the train.
The chief operating superintendent emphasised that these restrictions aim to safeguard passengers' lives, ensure safe and easy rail travel, maintain punctual train operations, and uphold operational standards. She added that the strict implementation of these four measures will help prevent train accidents.
