YouTube creator MrBeast has unveiled his latest large-scale social experiment, featuring a police officer and a former prisoner confined together in a purpose-built maximum security prison for 100 days.
The pair stand to win $500,000 if they endure the full duration without quitting, but if either leaves early, neither receives the prize.
MrBeast, whose real name is James Donaldson, explained that the prison was designed as a near-identical replica of a real facility, complete with cells, security doors, and solitary confinement.
The former prisoner highlighted details of the set-up, noting that while the toilets were authentic, the conditions were in some ways better than those he had previously experienced, including thicker mattresses and pillows.
The two participants were introduced only by their first names. Lenny, a police officer with 17 years of service, and Ian, who previously served three years in federal prison, provided contrasting perspectives on life inside. Lenny admitted he had never seen half a million dollars in his life, while Ian told MrBeast he owed that amount when he was released.
The video follows the pair as they attempt to adapt to their environment, with moments of both tension and camaraderie. At one point Ian is placed in solitary confinement, while Lenny receives a visit from his partner and three children, adding a personal dimension to the challenge.
Viewers have praised the concept for highlighting resilience and the human side of both experiences, while continuing MrBeast’s trend of producing ambitious large-scale challenges that blur the line between entertainment and social experiment.
