Young guard gunned down during robbery

Muggers were looting citizens near a bungalow in Gizri when Aaryan challenged them

KARACHI:

Armed robbers shot dead a young security guard during a robbery bid in the upscale Defence neighbourhood of the metropolis on Saturday.

With this killing, the number of people who have lost their lives in Karachi during robberies and resistance this year has risen to 59.

Police said three robbers riding a motorcycle were looting citizens near a bungalow in Gizri when the security guard, 23-year-old Aaryan, son of Muhammad Aslam, came out with his weapon to intervene. The suspects opened fire while fleeing, hitting him in the chest. He died on the spot.

The robbers also snatched away his 30-bore pistol and magazine before making their escape. The body was shifted to JOMC for medico-legal formalities.

District South SSP Mansoor Ali said the deceased had just returned after buying breakfast when he saw the robbers and tried to respond, upon which they opened fire. PS Gizri SHO Asghar Kango said CCTV footage from the area was being obtained to help trace the culprits.

A case has been registered at the Gizri police station on the complaint of the victim's father, who stated that his son was on duty outside the bungalow when the robbers attempted to loot passengers of a rickshaw. On hearing noise, Aaryan rushed out, and the suspects shot him. The bullet pierced his shoulder and proved fatal. The deceased hailed from Naushahro Feroze.
