A six-year-old girl was swept away in an open sewer drain in Khalid Colony, Mohra Chhappar on Chakri Road. Rescue 1122 launched a search operation, but it was suspended at sunset due to darkness and will resume on Monday morning.
In a separate incident on Adiala Road, two cattle herders became stranded on a mound after the water level suddenly rose. They were safely rescued by Rescue 1122 personnel using a boat.
Rescue officials said the missing child, identified as Nagina, had been attempting to retrieve a shoe that had fallen into the drain when she lost her balance and was carried away by the current.
Rescue teams reached the site promptly, deploying an emergency vehicle, an ambulance, a water rescue vehicle, and a seven-member team that included two divers and swimmers.
The drain is reported to be five to eight feet deep, with water flowing at eight to 10 kilometres per hour. Despite an all-day search, operations were halted at nightfall due to poor visibility. Officials confirmed the search would resume from the same point on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, on Adiala Road, rescue teams acted swiftly after receiving reports of two men trapped by fast-rising water. Both were evacuated within minutes and moved to safety.
