Emma Stone recently opened up about her experience working with her ex-boyfriend Andrew Garfield on The Amazing Spider-Man films, revealing fond memories of the time spent together on set. In a recent interview with Vogue, the 36-year-old actress reflected on the special period in her life when she portrayed Gwen Stacy opposite Garfield's Peter Parker.
Stone and Garfield’s on-screen chemistry translated into a real-life romance, with the two starting a relationship in 2011 during the filming of the first Spider-Man film. Their relationship lasted until 2015, but Stone indicated in the interview that they have remained on good terms since their breakup. “I really loved doing Spider-Man,” Stone shared. “I loved everyone I worked with. I met Andrew there. It was really a special time in my life.”
While the films themselves are iconic, Stone emphasized that it was the people she worked with that left the greatest impact on her. “The recurring theme is the people, more than the film itself, is what sticks with me for so long,” she said. “I have only the fondest memories of this whole experience.”
Aside from her Spider-Man role, Stone went on to star in La La Land, The Favourite, and Cruella, winning Oscars for her performance in La La Land and Poor Things. She married comedian Dave McCary in 2020 and the couple welcomed a daughter the following year.
Garfield, meanwhile, has continued his successful career, starring in films like Hacksaw Ridge and Under the Banner of Heaven. His return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021 was a key moment in the multiverse storyline, providing closure to his character’s tragic arc from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Garfield is currently in a relationship with A Complete Unknown star Monica Barbaro.
In addition to her fond memories of the Spider-Man experience, Stone also reflected on the intense press tours that followed the films’ releases, describing them as exhausting. "I felt truly psychotic the entire time,” she admitted.
As for the future of the Spider-Verse, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to hit theaters in 2026, with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker returning to the big screen alongside new faces, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher.
