Police have arrested a man accused of poisoning three siblings in Sabzazar area, leaving one child dead and two others critically ill.
SP Iqbal Town, Dr. Muhammad Umar, told reporters during a media briefing that the case was solved with the arrest of the accused, identified as Rehan.
Initial investigations revealed that the children's mother, Saima, had allegedly been in a relationship with the suspect for over two years following the death of her husband eight years ago.
On the day of the incident, Saima left home for work around 10 a.m., leaving her three children Aiman (13), Ayaan (11), and Azan (9) alone.
Police said Rehan entered the house during her absence and gave the children a heavy dose of sedatives and intoxicant tablets, which he had purchased from medical stores without prescription.
Shortly afterwards, the children's health deteriorated. Family members shifted them to a hospital, where 11-year-old Ayaan died, while Aiman and Azan remain under treatment in critical condition.
During interrogation, Rehan admitted to administering the tablets with malicious intent.
Police said the tablets were purchased illegally from local pharmacies. Authorities registered a case and investigations were under way.
