Dengue cases surge past 60 in Pindi
Dengue has hit Rawalpindi earlier than expected, with confirmed cases surpassing 60 even before the peak season, alarming the district administration and health department.
Monsoon rains have worsened the situation, with more cases now emerging from areas previously deemed low-risk.
Special dengue wards have been set up in all hospitals, staffed with doctors, nurses, and isolated from other units.
Graveyards across the city — 55 in total — have become high-risk zones due to knee-high weeds and stagnant rainwater, creating ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The deputy commissioner has ordered municipal bodies to begin cutting weeds and clearing graveyards from August 18, with Rs30 million allocated for the operation.
From August 18, daily review meetings on dengue will be held, with spraying already started in the Dhok Ratta area.
The district has been divided into five zones, seven sectors, and 32 clusters, each with designated supervisors.
A third-party survey team will monitor and recheck cleared areas, with strict action promised against any teams found negligent. The anti-dengue campaign will continue until October 31.
