Man, son booked for wife's murder

Police say suspects attempted to secretly bury victim's body in Kot Addu

RAWALPINDI:

In a gruesome incident in the Girja area of Rawalpindi's Dhamial Police jurisdiction, a man allegedly tortured his wife to death, with the suspected involvement of their son, in an attempt to secretly bury her. The plan was foiled when the crime came to light during funeral preparations in Kot Addu.

According to police, on August 10, Samina was taken to a hospital by her husband, Amir Abbas, and their son, who claimed she had been injured after falling down the stairs. No formal report was lodged with the hospital's police facilitation centre. On August 14, Samina succumbed to her injuries. The accused then placed her body in a coffin and quietly transported it to Kot Addu for burial without informing her family.

Relatives learned of her death through the local community and rushed to Kot Addu. During the ritual washing of the body, they noticed clear signs of torture. They stopped the burial, alerted the local police, and transported the body back to Rawalpindi for legal action.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani took notice and directed Dhamial Police to act. A post-mortem examination was conducted, and a murder case was registered under charges of homicide and concealing evidence on the complaint of the victim's father, Ghulam Akhtar.

Akhtar, a resident of Kot Addu, stated that his daughter had married Amir Abbas 18 years ago without family consent, and they had three children. The family had little contact with her. On the morning of August 14, he heard the announcement of her funeral and went to the house with relatives. Women who were preparing Samina's body revealed injuries and bruises, prompting him to call the police.

Akhtar further alleged that Amir Abbas would bring other women to the house and force Samina into immoral activities. Upon her refusal, Abbas, along with their children, allegedly beat her to death.

Police have begun an investigation and assured that the suspects will be arrested soon.
