Heavy rain likely across Punjab
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy monsoon rain in Lahore and several other cities of the province.
According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, the seventh spell of monsoon rains has commenced and will continue until August 21.
The DG said the spell is significantly stronger compared to previous ones and may bring intense rainfall to both catchment areas of rivers and the plains of Punjab. He said the monsoon showers are likely to affect most districts of the province.
In light of the forecast, the PDMA director general has directed all deputy commissioners to ensure on-ground readiness. Instructions have been issued to the Water and sanitation Agencies (WASA), Rescue 1122 and all other relevant departments to remain on high alert.
Authorities have been urged to ensure swift drainage of rainwater from low-lying areas, deploy machinery and staff at all choke points and maintain proper drainage around roads, hospitals and other public buildings.
