Wendy Williams’ lawyer disputes dementia re-diagnosis claims amid guardianship fight
Wendy Williams’ legal team has rejected newly leaked reports alleging the former talk show host has been re-diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.
Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, described the claims as “false” and part of a broader effort to keep Williams under a restrictive court-appointed guardianship.
Speaking to TMZ, Tacopina questioned the legitimacy of the reported diagnosis, demanding evidence and accountability from those responsible for the leak. “Where is the actual medical report supporting this leak? And who is the doctor willing to go under oath and face cross-examination so the truth can be exposed?” he asked.
According to Tacopina, neither he nor Williams has seen the alleged medical file. He suggested the leak may be a strategic move to justify continued control over her life and finances.
Williams has been under guardianship since 2022 and has previously denied having dementia. She has called for new, independent evaluations, claiming earlier medical assessments were manipulated.
Earlier this week, People reported that a court extended Williams’ guardianship following a review of medical evaluations, brain scans, and neuropsychological tests. The documents reportedly reaffirmed her diagnosis, first identified in 2023.
Court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey has requested that the arrangement remain in place until at least November 5, 2025. Williams and her legal team continue to fight for its termination.
The dispute adds to an ongoing legal and medical battle surrounding Williams’ health, autonomy, and control over her finances, with both sides maintaining sharply opposing positions.
