Brandon Blackstock, former husband of singer Kelly Clarkson, found companionship with her former assistant, Brittney Marie Jones, prior to his death at 48 following a private battle with melanoma.
An obituary published on Tuesday described Jones as Blackstock’s “beautiful and loving partner in life and business,” highlighting their joint ventures, including Headwaters Livestock Auction and the Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana, which they established in December 2024.
Jones worked as Clarkson’s assistant from 2016 until 2020, the same year Clarkson filed for divorce. Their divorce was finalised in 2022, granting Clarkson ownership of their Montana ranch while she resided in New York City with their two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9.
Reports suggest Jones was previously married to drummer Greg Goose LaPoint. Social media posts indicate they have since separated, and LaPoint is now in a new relationship.
Jones’ father referred to Blackstock as his daughter’s “soulmate” in an online tribute, expressing personal grief at his loss.
While Blackstock built a new chapter with Jones, Clarkson was reportedly involved in caring for him during his illness. She paused her talk show in early 2025 and cancelled Las Vegas residency performances to support him in his final months.
A source told People that Clarkson was “devastated” for their children, maintaining a respectful stance throughout his illness and prioritising their wellbeing.
