Power loom workers protest no increase in wages

Power loom workers in Faisalabad have announced to stage a strike and demonstration on July 6 against no increase in wages.

Secretary of the Labour Qaumi Movement, Aslam Miraj said the prime minister had announced an increase in salaries of skilled and unskilled workers in May this year.

The Punjab government also announced an increase in wages and ordered the implementation of new wages from July 1.

Labour unions claim a number of meetings with the government were held but their demands remain unmet.

Labour leaders have demanded that the government instruct factory owners to implement the new wages for powerloom workers.
