One Piece Heroines anime announced as fans debate which spinoffs deserve adaptation next

A new anime adaptation, One Piece Heroines, has been announced, focusing on stories from the women of the One Piece universe. The news was revealed during the Egghead Saga Voice Actors Special Stage Event at One Piece Day 2025, alongside a first visual featuring Nami and Robin.

Based on the light novels written by Jun Esaka and illustrated by Sayaka Suwa, the series adapts short stories first published in One Piece Magazine.

The first novel follows Nami, Robin, Vivi, and Perona, while the second includes Hancock, Tashigi, Reiju, and Uta, ending with a conversation between Nami and Robin. Haruka Kamatani will direct the anime, with Takashi Kojima as character designer and Momoka Toyoda handling the script.

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions among fans. Some are eager for the female-led stories to take centre stage, while others voiced preferences for different adaptations.

On Reddit, one fan suggested, “They should animate the Ace manga/novel. That would be so good with a proper studio behind it.” Another agreed, adding, “The Law novel too,” and others mentioned titles like Shokugeki no Sanji.

Several commenters expressed hope for more novel adaptations, including those centred on Ace, Law, and Zoro.

However, many welcomed the Heroines project, with one noting excitement over the involvement of the writer of Fan Letter, and another praising the Perona chapter from the first volume.

According to fans, the Heroines' stories are not necessarily canon, but some take place between key events in the main manga, offering “slice of life” moments rather than action-heavy arcs.

Eiichiro Oda has described them as “the little One Piece that exists in the margins of the great adventure.”
