Chaeyoung, one of the most recognisable voices and personalities in K-pop girl group TWICE, is officially stepping into the spotlight alone. Her agency, JYP Entertainment, has announced that she will release her first solo album on 12 September at 1 p.m., marking a decade since she first debuted with the group. This move makes Chaeyoung the fourth member of TWICE to pursue a solo project, following in the footsteps of Nayeon, Jihyo, and Tzuyu.
While the title and tracklist of the album are still under wraps, anticipation is already high among fans. A behind-the-scenes video released on JYP’s social media channels shows Chaeyoung immersed in the creative process, from meeting with Japanese pop band Gliiico to playing the piano, offering a rare glimpse into her artistry outside of the group. The clip has sparked speculation about the sound and style she might bring to her solo work, with many wondering if she will take a more experimental approach.
Chaeyoung’s recent projects have also hinted at her versatility. She contributed to the soundtrack of the hit Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters, performing a rendition of Takedown alongside bandmates Jihyo and Jeongyeon. Her performance received praise for its distinctive tone and emotive delivery, further cementing her ability to shine in diverse musical settings.
This announcement comes at a time when TWICE is experiencing a career high. Last month, the nine-member group launched a new world tour following the release of their fourth full-length album, This Is For. On 2 August, they headlined Lollapalooza Chicago, one of the most prestigious music festivals in the United States, performing to a massive crowd with hits like Dance the Night Away and What Is Love?
For Chaeyoung, the upcoming solo debut could be a defining moment, a chance to showcase her own voice, style, and creative vision, while still holding her place as an integral part of TWICE. Fans are counting down the days until September, ready to see a new chapter unfold in her already remarkable career.
