WI suffer a major blow with Forde ruled out

Johann Layne has been named as his replacement for the Pakistan ODI series

Matthew Forde

West Indies have suffered a major setback ahead of the first One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan, as fast bowler Matthew Forde has been ruled out of the three-match series due to a shoulder injury.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) confirmed that the 23-year-old dislocated his left shoulder while attempting a catch during a training session on Wednesday.

Forde's absence has opened the door for uncapped academy pacer Johann Layne, who has been named as his replacement for the series.

Pakistan, fresh from a 2-1 T20I series win over the Caribbean side, will look to carry their momentum into the 50-over format. However, the series opener on Friday could face interruptions due to bad weather.

The forecast predicts mostly cloudy skies with a high of 31°C, feeling as hot as 37°C with humidity. Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, including morning spells and light afternoon rain. There is an 82% chance of rainfall and a 24% risk of thunderstorms, which could disrupt play. Winds are expected from the east-northeast at 11 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 35 km/h.

Historically, West Indies hold a narrow advantage over Pakistan in ODIs, winning 71 of the 137 encounters. Pakistan have claimed 63 victories, while three matches ended with no result.
