The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) officially notified on Thursday the election of Mishal Yousafzai former Special Assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to the Senate on a women’s reserved seat from K-P.
According to the ECP, Yousafzai will serve in the upper house until March 11, 2027, following the resignation of Sania Nishtar. The notification has also been forwarded to the Senate Secretariat.
Yousafzai is expected to take her oath as Senator during the upcoming Senate session. Political observers say her entry into the upper house could add a fresh voice from K-P, with expectations that she will focus on development, women’s empowerment, and education in the province.
The by-election was held to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of PTI's Dr Sania Nishtar. In the polling held at the K-P Assembly, Yousafzai garnered 86 votes, while the opposition's joint candidate Mehtab Zafar, received 53 votes.
