Actress Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm over her 2021 firing from the Star Wars spin-off series The Mandalorian.

Carano, a former mixed martial arts fighter who portrayed Cara Dune on the Disney+ show, was removed from the cast after posting social media comments comparing being a Republican in the United States to being a Jew during the Holocaust. Lucasfilm at the time condemned her remarks as “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.”

The details of the settlement have not been made public. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Carano described the agreement as “the best outcome for all parties involved” and expressed hope it would “bring some healing to the force.” She also thanked Elon Musk for funding her lawsuit, calling his involvement a “Good Samaritan deed.”

Carano had filed suit alleging wrongful termination and sexual discrimination, claiming that two male co-stars had made similar posts without facing consequences. She sought $75,000 in damages and reinstatement in the series.

Following the settlement, Lucasfilm issued a statement describing Carano as “well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff,” and expressed interest in “identifying opportunities to work together” in the future.

Carano has been a polarizing figure, previously facing backlash for opposing mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic and for promoting false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

The resolution brings an end to a highly publicized legal battle that drew significant attention from both Star Wars fans and political commentators.
