Trio jailed for life in robbery-murder case
An Additional District and Sessions court in Rawalpindi on Thursday awarded three robbery cum murder accused life imprisonment and an additional 60 years of imprisonment along with fines and compensations.
The court found three individuals guilty and sentenced them collectively to life imprisonment, an additional 60 years of imprisonment, Rs600,000 in compensation, and Rs525,000 in fines.
The convicted suspects — Meherban Jamal, Muhammad Anees, and Atta-ur-Rehman — were found to have committed the robbery in March 2023. When the victim attempted to resist, he was savagely killed by the perpetrators.
Each convict received the sentences of life imprisonment and a Rs200,000 compensation order for the offence of murder, seven years' imprisonment and a Rs50,000 fine each for robbery, three years' imprisonment and a Rs25,000 fine each for possession of stolen property, and 10 years' imprisonment and a Rs100,000 fine each for joint criminal liability in connection with both the robbery and the murder.
Following the sentencing, all three convicts were immediately taken into custody from the courtroom and transferred to Adiala Jail.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani commended the investigative team for securing the convictions and issued directives to ensure that all serious criminal cases are investigated with the highest standards of transparency and diligence.
