Annie Korzen speaks out against Krispy Kreme, Maxibon after ‘Was it Krispy?’ clip goes viral
Comedian Annie Korzen has publicly accused Krispy Kreme and Maxibon of using her viral catchphrase “Was it Krispy? Right right” in a recent advertisement without credit or compensation.
The now-86-year-old shared a video on TikTok addressing the issue and expressing disappointment at being left unacknowledged for her original content.
@akorzen I was shocked to see @maxibonaus use my first viral moment in their ad without permission. After multiple failed attempts to reach them, I’m speaking out. This isn’t just wrong—it’s likely illegal. I’m open to working with brands, but using my original content without credit or pay is unacceptable. creator influencer krispykremelady anniekorzen

Korzen claims her 2021 video, which featured her humorous take on Krispy Kreme doughnuts, gained significant attention and became a meme.
On 30 June 2025, Maxibon posted a TikTok video promoting its collaboration with Krispy Kreme, captioned “wAs iT kRIspY????” , a phrase closely linked to Korzen’s clip.
In her statement, she said: “They have put up a video using me, using my image, using my words to sell their product. I am not credited. I am not paid for it.” She added, “Do you think maybe big corporations take advantage of people like me because I’m a woman? Because I’m an older woman?”
Korzen clarified that she does not wish for online backlash, but rather, she is calling for “fairness, credit, compensation, and respect.” She also noted that her attempts to contact the companies went unanswered.
Known for her role in Seinfeld and writing for outlets like The New York Times and NPR, Korzen continues to make content online and has published books including Bargain Junkie and The Book of Annie.
As of now, Krispy Kreme and Maxibon have not issued any public response.
