Reitman, known for Juno and Up in the Air, reportedly left following creative disagreements with McCurdy, who also serves as showrunner.
The 10-episode drama-comedy is produced by Aniston who is set to portray Debra McCurdy, Jennette’s late mother.
Despite being backed by a strong production team, including Margot Robbie, Jerrod Carmichael, and Sharon Horgan, producers now have just two weeks to secure a new director.
Sources told Puck that Reitman’s departure followed a dispute that turned “disrespectful,” as he aimed for a more comedic tone than McCurdy found appropriate.
Although the memoir includes humour, it primarily deals with serious issues, including McCurdy’s abuse allegations against her mother and former Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider.
McCurdy’s book, released in 2022, quickly topped the New York Times bestsellers list and gained widespread attention for its honest depiction of childhood trauma and industry exploitation.
