JI demands release of all political prisoners

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Monday called for the immediate release of all political prisoners in the country, stressing that no one should be arrested on political grounds and that democratic freedoms must be ensured.

Speaking to journalists in Mansehra after meeting party workers, he asserted that those imprisoned for political reasons must be released, adding that the practice of awarding politically motivated sentences through courts must end.

However, the JI emir maintained that political leaders also bear responsibility and must engage in responsible politics to uphold democracy.
