Pakistan wins 4 bronze medals at IOI

In a historic achievement for Pakistan’s technology and education sectors, the national team clinched four bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) 2025, held in Bolivia from July 27 to August 3.

Competing against 86 countries, Pakistan ranked 32nd—outperforming several developed nations including Germany, Austria, Turkey, France, Italy, New Zealand, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Saudi Arabia. This marks a significant improvement from last year’s performance, when the team won two bronze medals and ranked 46th at IOI 2024 in Alexandria, Egypt.

The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, led Pakistan’s participation in the event. In collaboration with the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) and educational boards nationwide, FBISE attracted 528 registrations for the Pakistan Olympiad in Informatics (POI) from students across all streams, including Cambridge.

Following two competitive selection rounds held in major cities such as Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Multan, Peshawar, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Rawalpindi and Islamabad, four outstanding young programmers were chosen to represent the country. Muhammad Aneeq, Ghulam Junaid, Muhammad Saram and Ahmed Imran Malik, all secured bronze medals—an unprecedented 100 per cent medal tally for Pakistan at IOI.

FBISE lauded the students’ performance as a testament to the transparent, merit-based selection process and the country’s growing talent in computer science and informatics. “This remarkable success brings immense pride to the nation and signals a brighter future for Pakistan in global technology competitions,” the board stated.
