Katy Perry pauses Detroit concert after fan collapses on stage

Katy Perry’s Lifetimes Tour performance in Detroit took an emotional turn when a young fan collapsed on stage during a segment of the show on Sunday night. The incident occurred at Little Caesars Arena, where Perry, as part of her nightly tradition, invites fans on stage to join her in performing her 2011 hit, “The One That Got Away.”
The fan, identified as McKenna, was selected by Perry from the upper section of the arena after catching the singer’s attention with a sparkling blue sequined skirt. Perry waited as McKenna and her friend made their way to the stage, warmly welcoming them. Moments later, as the performance was about to begin, McKenna fainted, visibly overwhelmed by the moment.

Perry immediately knelt beside the young fan as her crew and medical staff provided assistance. The crowd of approximately 13,000 began chanting McKenna’s name in support. After McKenna was helped offstage, Perry gathered the remaining three fans for a group hug and led a heartfelt prayer. “Dear God, we pray for McKenna, that she will come back fully and brighter and better than ever. Amen,” she said.

Acknowledging the emotional moment, Perry told the audience, “It’s so much. Sometimes you’re so brave and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling.” She then resumed the show and later, while performing “Roar” from a butterfly prop above the crowd, reassured fans, “McKenna’s doing great, by the way,” a statement also confirmed to Billboard by backstage sources.
The Detroit show marked the 13th stop on the North American leg of Perry’s Lifetimes Tour, which began in Mexico City in April. The tour will continue through December, concluding in Abu Dhabi.
Perry recently faced another onstage incident in San Francisco when the butterfly prop she was riding malfunctioned and dropped suddenly, though the singer quickly recovered and completed the performance.
