HYDERABAD:

In a police raid conducted in the wee hours of Friday a female social worker, Shahnaz Shaikh, has been detained from her residence. The police allegedly shifted her to undisclosed location as his family and supporters complain that she has been picked up without being nominated in any FIR.

Shaikh's arrest stirred a sit-in protest, which lasted for around nine hours, outside the SSP office.

In her last social media post minutes before her arrest, Shaikh claimed that the police were arresting her because she had announced that she would visit Bijarani-Laghari village in Moro, Noushehro Feroze district, to express solidarity with the people. The village was put under the police siege after the May 20 blockade of the National Highway and attack on the residence of Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar in Moro.
