Flood-hit vehicle found in Soan River

After nearly 10 days of relentless search efforts, rescuers on Friday recovered the completely destroyed wreckage of a car that flash floods had swept away with a father and daughter on board.

The vehicle was found trapped beneath Kak Pul in the Soan River, in the federal capital. It was found submerged and buried deep under layers of silt and mud beneath the bridge. On Thursday, the release of water from the Rawal Dam spillway caused the river level to rise, partially exposing a section of the vehicle. Rescue teams, upon spotting it, used a crane to extract the car from the mud.

The tragic incident occurred on the morning of April 22 during a severe thunderstorm in Phase 5 of a private housing society in Rawalpindi. Retired Colonel Qazi Muhammad Ishaq and his daughter were swept away in their car by the surging floodwaters.

Three days later, Qazi Ishaq's body was recovered by Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi and emergency personnel from the Soan River, beneath a bridge linking Sector 4 of one private society to Phase 7 of another, across the GT Road.

Earlier, scattered parts of the vehicle—including a door and bonnet—had been discovered under the GT Road Bridge. Despite six consecutive days of search and rescue operations, the vehicle and the girl remained untraced, leading authorities to suspend the operation.

On Friday, rescue personnel were alerted after a glint of metal was noticed beneath Kak Pul. Upon closer inspection, the submerged object was confirmed to be the same car involved in the tragedy.
