LHC sets aside FIR order against PM's son

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday set aside a district court's order directing the registration of an FIR against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's son, Suleman Shehbaz, in a cheque bounce case.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum ruled that the lower court had failed to properly examine the facts before issuing the directive.

Suleman Shehbaz had filed a petition challenging the July 10 order of a district judge, which instructed police to register a case against him under charges related to a dishonoured cheque.

During proceedings, the petitioner's counsel argued that the district court's order was not only legally flawed but also issued without a thorough review of the evidence.

He further contended that Suleman Shehbaz's company never received the goods in question — 17 laptops allegedly purchased from the respondent — and that the cheque involved in the case had been stolen and misused by former employees.
