The acting registrar of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Dr Shaista Faisal, has been removed from her post, according to a notification issued by the council. The notification directed her to report to the Human Resources department.
According to sources in the Ministry of Health, after being dismissed from service for five years, Dr Faisal re-joined PMDC and was promoted to the position of director within six months. She also received millions of rupees in arrears from her previous employment period.
Meanwhile, Polyclinic Hospital's Deputy Executive Director, Dr Abdul Wali Khan, has been transferred to PMDC headquarters in Islamabad on a three-year deputation.
A notification confirming his posting was issued with the approval of the federal secretary for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.
PMDC sources told The Express Tribune that, under council rules, the registrar's position is filled on a four-year contract basis, extendable once on the basis of performance. Since the restoration of PMDC, the registrar's post has seen frequent changes, reflecting the administrative instability of the country's top medical regulatory body.
