On the July 30, 2025 episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, actor Matt Damon teamed up with Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings and successfully won the $1 million grand prize, playing in support of Damon’s non‑profit Water.org, which works to bring access to clean water and sanitation to underserved communities.
Jennings and Damon reached the final question, which asked: “Which word is used to describe the sound made by leaves when wind blows through them?”
They used the 50:50 lifeline, narrowing the choices and confidently selected “Susurrus”, one of Jennings’s earlier first instincts.
Earlier in the game, they had also used the “Ask the Host” lifeline, trusting host Jimmy Kimmel to correctly answer a $500,000 question.
As confetti fell, Damon noted their win would support Water.org and help reach 200,000 people worldwide.
Kimmel, staying in character with their longstanding playful rivalry, quipped, “I’m begrudgingly going to shake your hand,” calling the moment “the least dramatic million‑dollar moment in Millionaire history.”
Jennings, introduced in the Season 4 premiere on July 23 as one of trivia’s greatest players, impressed fans with strategic gameplay. He had joined the show fresh off his record-setting run on Jeopardy!, where he later became its host.
The episode marked a highlight in this season’s celebrity-run format, and the duo’s performance generated extensive online buzz, from social clips to trivia discussions and congratulatory posts.
