Police strengthen Safe City collaboration
In an effort to curb the rising crime rate, district police have begun collaborating with the Safe City Project team. The initiative includes the monitoring of 1,430 CCTV cameras installed across key locations in the district, with staff working in three shifts to ensure 24/7 surveillance.
On a recent visit to the Safe City control centre, City Police Officer (CPO) Faisalabad, DIG Sahibzada Bilal Umar, was accompanied by SSP Investigation Nasir Mehmood Bajwa, SSP Operations Amara Shirazi, the SPs of all five town divisions, DSPs, SHOs, branch heads, and other senior officers.
During the visit, the Deputy Executive Officer of the Safe City Project briefed the CPO on operations, explaining that the cameras are being used to monitor marketplaces, high-traffic zones, and crime hotspots. The goal is to enhance real-time surveillance and assist in identifying and apprehending suspects.
CPO Sahibzada Bilal Umar issued directives to police and investigation officers across the district to use camera footage to trace and arrest criminals, and to maintain strong coordination with Safe City staff for improved crime detection.
Officials noted that the activation of the Safe City network has already contributed to a noticeable reduction in the more than 50 incidents of robbery and street crime previously being reported daily across the district.
The CPO further stated that once fully operational next month, the Safe City Project will also introduce an e-challan (e-ticketing) system.
