Women Football Championship: Deluge of goals in national event
Young Rising Star score 25 in women’s football event.
KARACHI:
Young Rising Star FC began their seventh National Women Football Championship in style as they thrashed Margala FC 25-0 in a Group D match in Islamabad.
Young Rising Star, the defending champions, made a mockery of Margala, who qualified for the tournament after securing second position from Islamabad at the Inter-club National Championship earlier this year.
Malika Noor scored 14 goals, Sehar Zaman netted five while Asmara Habib’s hat-trick, Roshanan Ali’s brace and captain Sana Mahmood’s strike added insult to injury.
Meanwhile, Punjab defeated Balochistan 2-0 with Aqsa scoring the first goal in the third minute before Tahira doubled the lead in the 16th minute.
The national football championship is featuring 15 teams this year with the final taking place on September 30.
The Pakistan Football Federation Director Development and Competitions Pervez Mir believes that the progress of women’s football is in its primary stages.
“Planning an international tournament is something that we haven’t thought about,” Mir told The Express Tribune. “But I believe that we are improving .”
