Bridge players take part in online event
Team prepares against Egypt prior to world championship.
KARACHI:
The Pakistan Bridge Federation has organised an online series with Egypt in order to prepare its players for the upcoming Bermuda Bowl World Team Championships that starts next month in the Netherlands.
The matches, first of which was held yesterday, were organised after the Egypt Bridge Federation approached its Pakistan counterpart. According to Pakistan captain Tahir Masood, the online series will benefit the players even though they will be competing from home.
“Thanks to technology we have a lot of ways to improve our game,” Masood told The Express Tribune. “Egypt qualified for the Bermuda Bowl and they have been the African champions for some time. One of the pairs from Egypt has been playing in the American circuit so we will surely benefit from their experience.”
The captain added that playing an online series is not different from the actual game. “It’s a good trend. We have the technology that we didn’t before. The material from Canadian coach Eric Kokish and online instructions helped us analyse our weaknesses and study. The online method is cheap and effective and gives us the same practice.”
Pakistan qualified for the tournament after beating India at the 16th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East Bridge Championship.
Rashidul Ghazi, Tehsin Gheewala, Tahir Masood, Javed Ahmed Miran, Syed Hasan Jawad, Hasan Askari with standby pair of Mubashir Puri and Khalid Mohiuddin along with Masood will represent Pakistan at the event.
The second and third matches will be tentatively held on September 22 and 24.
